Izora Contemporary is a Chicago based pop up gallery highlighting women, transgender, and nonbinary artists.

The memory of my Grandma Jean has been a guiding force in the creation of Izora Contemporary. Born in 1926, Izora Jean Thompson grew up in Chicago. She raised my grandmother in Chicago as a single mother, eventually migrating to my hometown, Pentwater, Michigan. She worked hard to survive, and in her later years, she found her voice as an artist.

The spiritual need to move back to Chicago felt like an echo of her strength and creativity calling me forward. Inspired by her unwavering spirit, Izora Contemporary aims to provide a platform for outstanding artists with unique perspectives.

Our focus is on showcasing artists who defy convention, challenge norms, and leave an unforgettable mark on the world of contemporary art. We were founded in Uptown, a vibrant neighborhood known for its eclectic mix of cultures. Our dedication lies in showcasing art that reflects this diversity.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to create a space where creativity knows no bounds and where art becomes a force for positive change. Izora Contemporary is committed to giving back, particularly to women facing challenges of domestic abuse and homelessness.
